Togolese artist Gérard Tété (aka Tesprit) has been selected for the 20222 edition of the Muse Salentine art residency.

For a month, the artist will work in the exceptional setting of Palazzo Sangiovanni in Alessano, in Puglia, in the very south of Italy. His works will then be exhibited in August at Castello di Tutino, the main art center of the region.

The residency and the exhibition are curated by Tancrède Hertzog with the support of the Mathilde Le Coz gallery.

FIVE WEEKS OF RESIDENCY AND AN EXHIBITION IN PUGLIA

During his five-week residency at Palazzo Sangiovanni, Tesprit will collaborate with students and local associations to raise awareness about the collection of waste on public roads, a chronic problem in Puglia, through art workshops led by the artist. The works created by the students will then be exhibited in the Sangiovanni palace and given to the Salvemini high school in Alessano.

In addition, a collection of used sandals and flip-flops has been launched in Alessano so that Tesprit can recycle them.

A two-week exhibition curated by Tancrède Hertzog will present the works created by Tesprit during his residency and will take place from August 3 to 17 at Castello di Tutino, near Alessano.

MUSE SALENTINE ART RESIDENCY

The art residency Muse Salentine was born in 2019 in Alessano alongside the music festival of the same name which, for twelve years, has brought together in Puglia some of the best musicians, ensembles and performers of classical music. The concerts are held in the exceptional setting of Palazzo Sangiovanni, a Renaissance building, or in the Romanesque cathedral of Otranto.
